Equipping Youth with World Class skills in the Construction industry

Actis & MML have partnered with Arc Skills an international Skills Development Centre to bridge skills gap in the growing construction industry. This training programme was offered to 300 local youth, 42 per cent of whom had no employment history. They are receiving technical training on construction skills including masonry, plastering and plumbing.

The training is conducted on a monthly basis and is aligned with the timeline of the on-going construction project and the skilled labour needs of the project in a ‘just-in-time’ fashion. Students then receive an internationally accredited certification from the Australian Vocational Training and Employment Group (AVTEG) on completion of the training.

The internationally accredited course is partly theoretical but mostly practical, based on a well-respected Australian curriculum. Students must pass an exam to receive a certificate. The programme also includes a Health & Safety module to ensure students are educated to keep themselves and their fellow workers safe, and what a safe construction site looks like. It will last approximately one year.
